Wenn ich als Distributor nicht mal 3000 Geräte an diese Kanäle verkaufe, dann kannst Du davon ausgehen das das Gerät nicht läuft, aber es ist ein Gerät für den Nischenmarkt, denn mal ehrlich das Gerät hat einen UVP von 529 von SE und du bekommst es zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt bei Amazon für ca. 320€ 

Das Problem sehe ich darin, das das Gerät für die angestrebte Zielgruppe einfach zu teuer war und sind wir mal ehrlich, welcher Erwachsene kauft ein solches Gerät ????

Mal sehen ob Sony einen Nachfolger dafür bringt, ausserdem wenn das Gerät laufen würde würdest Du mit Sicherheit auch mehr PS1 Umsetzung usw. finden, da ist so gut wie nichts gekommen, dafür das sie das Gerät als Playstation Handy vermarkten wollten war das einfach zu wenig.

Mal sehen wie es weitergeht.

Vom ersten Gerät wissen wir noch nicht viel, der Retroduo Portable wird wohl auf dem stationären Retroduo basieren und NES und SNES unterstützen. Auf DigitalPress gibt es einen Thread zu ihm.

Es ist eine Grafik, die eigentlich alles über den aktuellen Stand auf dem Handheldmarkt aussagt: Das US-Marktforschungsunternehmen Flurry (ja, die heißen wirklich so…) hat die Umsätze auf dem Markt für mobile Spiele analysiert und das sieht gar nicht so gut für die klassischen Handhelds aus. So stieg der Umsatz von iOS und Android-Spielen von nur 19% 2009 auf satte 58% vom Kuchen. Der Nintendo DS verteidigt sich tapfer gegen den Ansturm der Smartphones, während die PSP mittlerweile kaum noch eine Rolle spielt.

Natürlich kann man jetzt die Methodik der Untersuchung auseinandernehmen, aber der Trend ist soweit klar: Smartphones werden in der nächsten Zeit die Handhelds beerben. Die Gründe dafür sind klar: Im Gegensatz zu den Handhelds besitzt man im Zweifelsfall demnächst ein Smartphone. Schaut man sich die Marktanteile an, werden auch die Dumbphones nach und nach verschwinden – dann ist das mobile Spiel nur einen Klick im Appstore und irgendwas zwischen 99 Cent und 4,99€ entfernt. So tragisch es auch klingt – wollte ich demnächst Super Mario 3D Land spielen, müsste ich 150€ für einen 3DS investieren und nochmal 40€ für das Spiel. Das ist eine Menge Holz, wenn ich mir die Zeit in der Straßenbahn auch mit ebenfalls ordentlichen Androidspielen vertreiben kann. Andere Menschen werden ähnlich handeln.

Wirklich bedrohlich wird es aber, wenn die Dritthersteller ihre großen Handheldtitel auf die Smartphones und Tablets bringen. Dieser Trend zeichnet sich auch bereits ab: Für iOS gibt es etwa schon Phoenix Wright und Professor Layton ist ebenfalls angekündigt. Bei den sich verschiebenden Marktanteilen wären die Publisher schlecht beraten, wenn sie ihre Titel nicht auf allen Plattformen anbieten würden.

Für die Handhelds bleiben nur noch drei Nischen: Zum einen enorm gute Grafiken (Vita) oder Gimmicks wie 3D-Bildschirme. Diese drohen aber innerhalb der Lebenszeit eines Handhelds von den Smartphones überholt zu werden. Heute ist man noch der König, morgen ist das Aldi-Handy leistungsfähiger und hat auch einen 3D-Bildschirm. Die zweite Nische, extrem gute Exklusivtitel, kann funktionieren, muss aber nicht. Mario kann Käufer anlocken, aber es ist auf Dauer fraglich, ob sich die hohen Produktionskosten solcher Titel refinanzieren, wenn die Käufer nicht noch viel mehr Spiele für den Handheld kaufen. Und die dritte Lücke ist einfach zu klein – Personen, denen man kein Smartphone in die Hand drückt. Kinder etwa. Aber vielleicht speist man die in Zukunft auch mit billigen China-Handhelds ab.

Einzig eine Chance bleibt: Bereits heute kann ich auf meinem Galaxy II Quake 3 spielen. Es steuert sich aber leider furchtbar. Das gilt für einen Großteil der Handyspiele – Touchscreens eignen sich für viele Genres einfach nicht. Renn- und Actionspiele sind mit Bildschirmtastaturen kaum sinnvoll zu kontrollieren. Wir werden uns wohl daran gewöhnen müssen, denn die Smartphones werden bleiben und Geräte wie das XPeria Play mit Gaming-Tasten oder das iControlpad werden Nischenprodukte bleiben.

Nokia kann einem bei dieser Entwicklung fast Leid tun – mit dem N-Gage hatten sie damals den richtigen Riecher und haben gute, aufwändige Spiele auf die Handys gebracht. Bis heute gibt es etwa kaum ein mobiles Strategiespiel mit so viel Tiefgang wie Pathway to Glory.

Und was ist mit den vielen kleinen Handhelds neben den zwei Großen? Die Zukunft der Emulatorenhandhelds wie GP2X, Wiz oder Pandora ist die Nische. Das lohnt sich für Enthusiasten und einen kleinen Kreis begeisterter, aber ich sehe keine Chance auf dem Massenmarkt.

Und das ist auch der Grund, warum hier gerade so wenig los ist – die Handheldszene stirbt langsam vor sich hin und die wirklich interessanten Entwicklungen passieren bei den Smartphones. Ich will aber nicht über irgendwelche neuen Galaxys, Desires, Nexus Primes oder iPhones bloggen. Und ich will auch nicht das x-te Blog werden, dass wie wild irgendwelche Apps testet.

If you are one of the guys who are thinking about investing but haven’t made your final decision yet:
Don’t worry, you’re not too late – I’ve got 350K EUR right now and will accept investments up to 450K EUR… as that means that I can buy more parts at once which decreases the production costs as well.
So, during the next week, it’s time to prepare all the contracts and send them to the investors.
We’re very good within my timeframe, so it still looks like the big run in Germany will start in January.
Tomorrow I’ll have a meeting with the guys from EBV (major distributor for parts, we bought all the TI parts from them) to discuss how to move the parts for Batch 2 from CircuitCo in Texas to Global Components in Germany.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
